The law firm Cocron GmbH & Co. KG, with offices in Berlin and Munich, successfully secured the repayment of over €30,000 worth of cryptocurrencies for a client. The refund was processed by the provider Wirex after our firm initiated legal proceedings – a court ruling was not required.
The case: Account blocked – access to Bitcoin denied
Our client opened a customer account via the German-language website of Wirex and deposited Bitcoin there in several transactions. Although Wirex advertises with claims of regulation, transparency and security, the company does not have any official authorization to provide financial services in Germany or the European Economic Area (EEA).
Shortly after the deposit, the account was blocked . Despite multiple attempts to contact customer support, access remained permanently denied – no withdrawal was made.
Legal action proves effective: Wirex backs down after lawsuit.
Following a thorough legal review, the law firm Cocron filed a lawsuit with the competent court . The subject of the lawsuit was the return of the deposited Bitcoins or their equivalent monetary value – based, among other things, on the unauthorized provision of financial services requiring a license under Section 32 of the German Banking Act (KWG) and on civil claims for restitution .
Even while the proceedings were ongoing, Wirex reacted and initiated a full refund . Our client thus received her entire cryptocurrency assets back.
